So create a new text file and paste that into it.

Here is what our custom playlist is basically going to look like To do this we actually need to make a custom playlist file that points to your desired directory and have it load when vlc starts.įortunatly vlc uses the xspf format for it's playlist standard which is pretty straight forward. This is semi-dynamic because it only updates. Solution 2 - Loading entire directorys semi-dynamicly: It also seems that vlc is buggy with playlist making and large number of files. If you have 50,000+ song.making a playlist is not really efficent.not efficent at all.

Its a static list of your media which means you have to recreate the playlist every time you get some new stuff.Ģ. Put together a playlist of all your media and have it vlc load it by default at start up.ġ. However with this vlc remote it's quite tedious to always browse your computer on the phone in search of a particular file. I'd like to keep MPlayer around for certain things - most notably for the fact that Nautilus doesn't seem able to generate video thumbnails without it being installed.I found it nice to control my whole media library during a party while lounging on my deck enjoying company from other party guests (yep.). After removing all traces of that as well, finally VLC would play any double-clicked media file.

The only way that has worked to make VLC play my videos by default, was first to completely remove totem and all it's associated packages inside synaptic, which caused GnomeMplayer to become my default. I've edited /etc/gnome/defaults.list to the point of completely removing and replacing every single instance of "sktop" with "vlc.desktop", yet MPlayer still plays all my video files when double clicked.

When right-clicking, I've tried using the Custom Command option to enter VLC as the default player to open certain types of files, but as far as I can tell, all video file types still open in MPlayer when I double click them. I've entered VLC as the custom command for the default media player under the multimedia tab in Preferences>Preferred Applications (VLC doesn't appear in the drop-down list). I have to right-click the file and manually select VLC under the 'open with.' option every time. When I go into a folder and double click a video file, it launches in MPlayer. I'm trying to make VLC my default media player for videos.
